Fresh Grounds is pleased to offer Immersion: Coffee Education Workshops as a new experience for those interested in elevating their knowledge and appreciation of all things coffee. These workshops, appropriate for either beginner or intermediate coffee drinkers, will be interactive and feature coffee tastings, interactive demonstrations, and/or hands-on basic technique training. Join us and learn how to enjoy your daily cup of coffee in a whole new way!

Our second series of sessions is focused on equipping you to brew delicious, cafe-quality coffee at home in a simple, repeatable, and enjoyable way. No prior experience or knowledge in brewing coffee is necessary to enjoy these accessible approaches to the art of coffee brewing. Workshops will be very interactive and give you a hands-on opportunity to make your own coffee like you never have before.

Each workshop will last approximately an hour and a half. Each class can be taken on its own, apart from the others, but a more enriching experience can be attained by using each workshop as a building block.

Series II: Coffee Brewing at Home

  • 1. Basics of Coffee Brewing

    This introductory workshop will educate you on the two most important variables in approaching your coffee beans: grinding and brewing water. Through a series of interactive experiments, you’ll be able to taste the surprising effects imparted to coffee by different types of grinders and by different varieties of water. You’ll learn how to avoid the pitfalls these variables often represent as well as how to harness them to make your coffee even more delicious no matter how you decide to brew it.

  • 2. Immersion Brewing

    Feat. French Press

    This hands-on workshop will introduce brewing methods that utilize the total immersion of coffee grounds in water, with a special emphasis on the French Press. You’ll be trained to use some advanced but simple tricks that allow this ubiquitous brewer to rival the most refined coffee techniques.

    The cost of the class includes a glass French Press brewer and a bag of coffee tailored to your preferences.

  • 3. Pourover Brewing

    Feat. Hario V60

    This training session will be an opportunity to try your hand at the dazzling yet daunting art of pourover brewing. You’ll learn to brew a simple, accessible recipe that will equip you to make a delicious daily cup by hand.

    The cost of the class includes a Hario V60 pourover kit and a bag of coffee tailored to your preferences.

  • 4. Iced Coffee Brewing

    This workshop will prepare you for hot summer days by teaching you the hands-on basics of all things iced coffee. You’ll learn about the pros and cons of cold-brew coffee, as well as a faster and more advanced approach to iced coffee that will lead you to a crisp, refreshing, and complex beverage every time.

    The cost of the class includes a bag of coffee tailored to your preferences.
